esordio

debut

noun eh-ZOR-dyoh Rare

Also means

opening

Usage Note

Esordio refers to a first appearance or beginning — of a career, a season, a work. The related verb is esordire ('to make one's debut'): ha esordito in Serie A a diciassette anni ('he debuted in Serie A at seventeen'). Do not confuse with esodo ('exodus'), which sounds superficially similar.

Examples

"Il suo esordio teatrale è stato accolto con applausi."

Natural Translation

His theatrical debut was met with applause.
