Usage Note

Estradizione is a legal/diplomatic term for the formal surrender of a suspect or criminal to another country's jurisdiction. It is used exclusively in legal and journalistic contexts: chiedere l'estradizione (to request extradition), trattato di estradizione (extradition treaty). There is no informal equivalent — the word is always technical.
