Usage Note

Esubero is the standard Italian labour-relations term for a redundant worker or surplus headcount. In esubero means 'redundant' or 'surplus to requirements': i lavoratori in esubero (the redundant workers). It does not mean 'abundant' in a positive sense — that would be abbondanza. The plural is regular: gli esuberi.
