Usage Note
Federalista is invariable for gender as an adjective (un partito federalista, una proposta federalista), and as a noun it takes the article to mark gender: il federalista (m), la federalista (f). The plural is federalisti (m/mixed) or federaliste (f). In Italian politics it is associated particularly with the Lega Nord/Lega party's push for greater regional autonomy, giving the word a specific political colouring.
