Usage Note

Fin is a shortened form of fino, used before consonants or da: fin dall'inizio (from the very beginning), fin qui (up to here), fin troppo (far too much). It is not interchangeable with fine (end, noun). This clipped form is especially frequent in set phrases and in poetry.

Examples

"Fin dall'inizio sapevo che avevi ragione."

Natural Translation

From the very beginning I knew you were right.

Literal Translation

Up-from the-beginning I-knew that you-had reason.
