Formalmente means 'in a formal or official manner': formalmente accusato (formally charged). It can also contrast with substance: formalmente corretto ma sostanzialmente sbagliato (formally correct but substantially wrong). It derives regularly from formale + -mente. Do not confuse with fortemente ('strongly') or fermamente ('firmly').
