Usage Note

Fuoripista is used both as an invariable adverb (sciare fuoripista — to ski off-piste) and as an invariable noun (il fuoripista). It describes skiing or snowboarding outside marked runs. In figurative use it can mean going off-track or outside the rules: una mossa fuoripista.
