futuro

future

noun foo-TOO-roh Common

Origin: From Latin futurus (about to be), future participle of esse (to be).

Usage Note

Futuro functions both as a noun (il futuro = 'the future') and as an adjective (i progetti futuri = 'future projects'). In Italian grammar, futuro semplice and futuro anteriore name the two future tenses. As an adjective it typically follows the noun. The plural futuri is regular.
