Also means
to swell
Usage Note
Gonfiare is used literally (gonfiare un pallone, to inflate a ball) and figuratively (gonfiare i prezzi, to inflate prices; gonfiare le statistiche, to inflate statistics). The reflexive gonfiarsi means to swell up — il piede si è gonfiato (the foot swelled up). It takes avere as auxiliary in compound tenses.
Examples
"Devo gonfiare le gomme della bicicletta."
Natural Translation
I need to inflate the bicycle tyres.
