Usage Note
Graduale is an invariable-gender adjective: un miglioramento graduale (m), una crescita graduale (f). The plural is graduali for both genders. It describes processes that happen in steps rather than all at once; the adverb gradualmente is derived from it. Note that in ecclesiastical contexts il graduale is also a noun referring to a liturgical chant.
