gravidanza
pregnancy
noun grah-vee-DAHN-tsah Rare
Origin: From Latin 'graviditas', from 'gravidus' (heavy, pregnant).
Usage Note
Gravidanza is the standard medical and everyday term for pregnancy. The adjective gravida (pregnant, formal/medical) comes from the same root. Informally Italians say essere incinta or restare incinta (to get pregnant); the adjective incinta inflects for number (una donna incinta → due donne incinte). Do not use gravidanza as an adjective.
Examples
"La sua gravidanza procede senza problemi."
Natural Translation
Her pregnancy is progressing without problems.
