hedge
hedge
Origin: English loanword used in Italian financial terminology.
Usage Note
Hedge is used exclusively as a financial anglicism in Italian, almost always in the compound hedge fund (fondo speculativo is the official Italian equivalent but rarely used). It is invariable and masculine — un hedge, gli hedge. Outside finance, the English word has no Italian currency; Italians would say siepe for a garden hedge. The seed POS 'adjective' is an error — it functions as a noun (modifier in hedge fund).
Examples
"Molti hedge fund operano dai paradisi fiscali."
Natural Translation
Many hedge funds operate from tax havens.
