his

his, her, its

determiner HIZ Rare

Origin: Borrowed from English 'his'.

Usage Note

His appears in Italian only as a raw English word in quoted or borrowed text — it has no native Italian use. In Italian, possession is expressed with suo/sua/suoi/sue for third-person singular, agreeing with the possessed noun's gender, not the possessor's: il suo libro can mean 'his book', 'her book', or 'its book'.

Examples

"Ho scritto «his» invece di «suo»."

Natural Translation

I wrote 'his' instead of 'suo'.
