Usage Note
Impostare has two main clusters of meaning: the technical sense of configuring a device or software (impostare il telefono = to set up the phone) and the more formal sense of framing or approaching a problem (impostare il lavoro = to structure the work). It also survives in the older sense of mailing a letter (impostare una lettera), now less common. Auxiliary is avere.
