Usage Note
Indebitato describes a person, company, or state that has accumulated debts. It is stronger and more formal than in debito (in debt). Fortemente indebitato (heavily indebted) is a common fixed phrase in financial journalism. As a past participle it can also be used predicatively: si è indebitato (he went into debt).
