innocenza
innocence
noun een-noh-CHEN-tsah Rare
Origin: From Latin innocentia, from innocens (harmless, blameless).
Usage Note
Innocenza refers to both legal innocence (presunzione di innocenza = presumption of innocence) and moral or childlike purity. The adjective is innocente and its plural innocenze is rarely used. A false friend to watch: innocuo means 'harmless', not 'innocent'.
Examples
"Il tribunale ha confermato la sua innocenza."
Natural Translation
The court confirmed his innocence.
