integrale

wholemeal; complete; full

adjective een-teh-GRAH-leh Rare

Also means

integral (mathematics)

Usage Note

Integrale has two main everyday uses: in food contexts it means wholemeal or whole-grain (pane integrale, riso integrale), and more broadly it means total or complete (versione integrale, 'full/unabridged version'). In mathematics un integrale (noun) is 'an integral'. Do not confuse with integrante ('integral' in the sense of 'forming an essential part') — parte integrante is the correct phrase for 'an integral part'.

Examples

"Preferisco il pane integrale a quello bianco."

Natural Translation

I prefer wholemeal bread to white bread.
