Usage Note

Lascare is a nautical verb meaning to ease off or slacken a rope or sail: lascare la scotta (to ease the sheet). Its opposite is cazzare (to haul taut). Outside sailing it survives regionally (especially in Veneto) for loosening generally; do not confuse it with lasciare (to leave).
