lasso

period

noun LAHS-soh Rare

Origin: From Latin lapsus (slip, passage).

Also means

lapse

Usage Note

Lasso in modern Italian almost always appears in the fixed phrase lasso di tempo (a lapse/span of time). As a standalone noun it is fairly literary. Do not confuse it with the adjective lasso (weary, exhausted), which is a separate homograph of poetic register.

Examples

"In un breve lasso di tempo tutto è cambiato."

Natural Translation

In a short span of time everything changed.
