Usage Note

Lord is used in Italian as a direct loanword for a British peer or member of the House of Lords: lord inglese, Camera dei Lord ('House of Lords'). It is invariable — the plural remains i lord (not lords). It is also used loosely in informal speech to mean an important or distinguished gentleman, sometimes ironically.
