Usage Note

Lunare describes anything relating to the moon: il ciclo lunare (the lunar cycle) or l'eclissi lunare (lunar eclipse). It also appears in colloquial Italian in the phrase avere le lune ('to be moody'), where the moon metaphor suggests changeable behavior. The word is invariable for gender — il paesaggio lunare, la luce lunare — but takes a plural lunari.
