Usage Note
Maxi is an invariable prefix-adjective in Italian: it does not change for gender or number — una maxi multa (f), un maxi processo (m), le maxi operazioni (f pl). It is freely prepended to nouns in journalism to signal something of exceptionally large scale, especially fines, trials, or operations.
