Usage Note

Metallo is masculine: il metallo, plural i metalli. Used in everyday speech (un oggetto di metallo = a metal object) and in the music genre il metal (borrowed directly from English, invariable). Metallico is the adjective (metallic). Do not confuse metallo with medaglia (medal) despite their shared root.
