Metano is the standard Italian word for methane (natural gas) used as a fuel. Auto a metano ('methane-powered car') and riscaldamento a metano ('gas heating') are everyday phrases. Do not confuse with metanolo (methanol, wood alcohol), which is a toxic liquid. Il metano is always masculine.
