Usage Note

Metro has two common meanings: the unit of length (abbreviation m) and — as a shortening of metropolitana — the underground railway. Both are masculine, though la metropolitana (the full form) is feminine. The plural is regular: due metri (two metres). Don't confuse with misura (a measure/size in clothing).
