miglio
mile
noun MEE-lyoh Rare
Origin: Latin miliarium (mile) / milium (millet)
Also means
millet
Usage Note
Miglio is a masculine noun, not feminine — the seed gender needs correction. Its plural is irregular and gender-switching: il miglio (one mile) → le miglia (miles, feminine plural), following the same pattern as il braccio → le braccia. As 'millet' (the grain) it is also masculine singular il miglio with a regular plural i migli.
Examples
"La città si trova a poche miglia dal confine."
Natural Translation
The city is a few miles from the border.
