Usage Note
Naturalismo refers to the 19th-century literary and artistic movement that portrayed life without idealization, associated with Zola in France and the Verismo movement in Italy (Verga, Capuana). In Italian literary history it is often paired with verismo; the distinction is that verismo is specifically Italian and focuses on southern rural life. Always masculine: il naturalismo.
