Usage Note
Obbedire can also be spelled ubbidire — both forms are correct and equally common in modern Italian; ubbidire tends to appear more in literary or older texts. It takes a before the person obeyed: obbedire ai genitori (to obey one's parents). The auxiliary in compound tenses is avere.
