panda

panda

noun PAHN-dah Rare

Origin: Nepali/Tibetan origin, via French

Usage Note

Panda in Italian is grammatically masculine (il panda, i panda) despite ending in -a — a common learner trap since most Italian nouns ending in -a are feminine. It is invariable in the plural (i panda, not i pande). Note also that Panda (capitalised) is a well-known small Fiat car model in Italy.

Examples

"Il panda mangia bambù tutto il giorno."

Natural Translation

The panda eats bamboo all day.
