Usage Note

Paralizzare takes avere as auxiliary. It is used both literally (l'incidente lo ha paralizzato — the accident paralysed him) and figuratively for bringing something to a standstill (lo sciopero ha paralizzato la città — the strike paralysed the city). The double z is pronounced 'dz'.
