Origin: From Latin participare (to share in), from pars (part) + capere (to take).
Usage Note
Partecipare is intransitive and takes avere: ho partecipato alla gara ('I took part in the competition'). It is always followed by a ('in/at'): partecipare a una riunione ('to attend a meeting'). The noun partecipazione means 'participation' or, in formal usage, a printed announcement (wedding announcement: partecipazione di nozze).
