Pendente describes something literally hanging (un lampadario pendente) or figuratively unresolved — a legal case still pendente means it is before the court and not yet decided. As a noun un pendente means an earring (drop style). The famous Torre Pendente di Pisa (Leaning Tower) uses this adjective.
