però

but

adverb peh-ROH Common

Also means

however

Usage Note

Però means 'but/however' and, unlike ma, it can slide to the end of a sentence for emphasis: è caro, però ('it's expensive, though'). Italians also use it alone, raising the eyebrows, to express impressed surprise.

Examples

"È piccolo, però comodo."

Natural Translation

It's small, but comfortable.

Literal Translation

It-is small, but comfortable.
