Perfezionare means to bring something closer to perfection through practice or revision: perfezionare il proprio italiano (to perfect one's Italian). The reflexive perfezionarsi means 'to improve oneself' or 'to specialize further.' It takes avere as auxiliary (or essere when reflexive).
