PIL is the Italian acronym for gross domestic product, Prodotto Interno Lordo, and is treated as a masculine invariable noun. Like other acronyms it never takes a plural and is read letter by sound, pil. You will meet it constantly in economic news, as in crescita del PIL (GDP growth).
