porcellanato

porcelain-finish (tile)

adjective por-chel-lah-NAH-toh Rare

Also means

porcelain stoneware

Usage Note

Porcellanato refers specifically to gres porcellanato — a dense, vitrified ceramic tile fired at very high temperatures, standard in Italian interior design. It is tougher and less porous than ordinary ceramic, and the term is almost exclusively used in construction and home-decor contexts. It is not the same as porcellana (fine porcelain tableware).

Examples

"Il pavimento della cucina è in gres porcellanato."

Natural Translation

The kitchen floor is in porcelain stoneware.
