to put
Usage Note
Porre is a highly irregular verb contracted from the older ponere. Its present tense: pongo, poni, pone, poniamo, ponete, pongono. The past participle is posto. It takes avere as its auxiliary. In formal and written Italian it often replaces mettere; phrases like porre fine a (to put an end to) and porre una domanda (to ask a question, literally 'to put a question') are idiomatic and common.
Examples
"Vorrei porre una domanda importante."
Natural Translation
I would like to ask an important question.
Literal Translation
I-would-like to-place a question important.
