Also means
to take a sample
Usage Note
Prelevare is a regular -are verb with two main uses: in everyday banking it means to withdraw money — prelevare dal bancomat (to withdraw from an ATM); in medical or scientific contexts it means to take a sample — prelevare del sangue (to take a blood sample). It takes avere as auxiliary. A false friend alert: it does not mean 'to relieve' — that is sollevare or alleviare.
Examples
"Ho prelevato cento euro al bancomat."
Natural Translation
I withdrew a hundred euros from the ATM.
