Presidente is grammatically masculine in its base form, but the feminine la presidente is now standard and preferred over the archaic la presidentessa. It is used for heads of state (presidente della Repubblica) as well as company chairs and club presidents. The title is often capitalized when referring to a specific incumbent: il Presidente Mattarella.
