to cast (a shadow)

Usage Note

Proiettare takes avere as auxiliary. It covers both projecting an image onto a surface (proiettare un film) and casting light or shadow. The noun is proiezione (f). In a psychological sense, proiettare also means 'to project' emotions onto others (as in Freudian projection), a usage increasingly common in Italian.
