Usage Note

Prossimo means 'next' in time (la prossima settimana, next week) or space (la prossima fermata, the next stop). When placed before the noun it typically means 'next upcoming'; after the noun it can mean 'nearest' or 'coming up soon'. Note that prossimo refers to the NEXT item from the present moment — Italian speakers do not use it for the week just passed (that is scorso/passato).
