Usage Note

Ragioniere is a masculine noun: il ragioniere, i ragionieri; the feminine form is la ragioniera. In Italy, ragioniere traditionally referred to a qualified accountant holding a specific secondary-school diploma (diploma di ragioneria), distinct from a commercialista (chartered accountant with a university degree). The title is still in common use.
