rasare

to shave

verb rah-ZAH-reh Rare

Also means

to mow level

Usage Note

Rasare means to shave close or to cut something flush — used for hair, grass, and even demolition (rasare al suolo = to raze to the ground). It takes avere as its auxiliary. The reflexive rasarsi means 'to shave oneself'. Do not confuse rasare with radere, which is more common in spoken Italian for shaving a beard; rasare is broader and also applies to lawns and surfaces.

Examples

"Si è rasato la testa completamente."

Natural Translation

He shaved his head completely.

Literal Translation

He-himself has shaved the head completely.
