Rovescia is most commonly encountered in the fixed phrase alla rovescia (upside down, back to front, inside out). The standalone noun for a sudden downpour or a tennis backhand is the masculine il rovescio. Learners often confuse rovescia with the verb rovesciare (to overturn, to spill).
