Usage Note

Scellino is the Italian name for the shilling, historically the British coin worth one-twentieth of a pound, and also used for the Austrian Schilling (scellino austriaco) before the euro. The plural is regular: gli scellini. In modern use it appears mainly in historical or literary contexts, or when discussing currencies of East African countries (Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania) that still use the shilling.
