to strike (an hour)

Usage Note

Scoccare has two main uses: releasing an arrow (scoccare una freccia) or the striking of a clock (scocca la mezzanotte — midnight strikes). It can also mean a moment arriving suddenly: quando scocca l'ora (when the hour comes). The 'sc' before 'o' gives the 'sk' sound.
