scontentare

to displease; to dissatisfy

verb skon-ten-TAH-reh Rare

Usage Note

Scontentare means to leave someone dissatisfied or to disappoint expectations — milder than deludere (to deeply disappoint). The adjective scontento ('unhappy, displeased') is far more frequent in everyday speech. The reflexive scontentarsi is rarely used; the active form with a direct object is the standard construction: 'Non voglio scontentarti.'

Examples

"Non voglio scontentare nessuno."

Natural Translation

I don't want to displease anyone.
