Usage Note

Seguitare is a slightly literary or old-fashioned synonym of continuare (to continue), used with an infinitive: seguitò a parlare — he kept on talking. It takes avere in compound tenses. In contemporary Italian continuare is more common in everyday speech; seguitare appears in formal prose and literature.
