Selezione covers both the process of selecting (selezione del personale = staff recruitment) and the result (a chosen set or shortlist). In sport, la selezione nazionale can informally mean 'the national team'. The verb is selezionare. Do not confuse with elezione (election, voting), which comes from the same root but refers specifically to voting.
