Usage Note

Seppia is both the sea creature (Sepia officinalis) and the warm brownish-grey colour ('sepia'), derived from the ink the animal produces. In Italian cooking it is used in risotto al nero di seppia (squid-ink risotto) — though note that seppia and calamaro are different animals. The adjective color seppia describes the vintage photographic tone.
